The Alan Pye Cottage has been built to exacting standards using the finest heritage materials − cedar and various heart timbers, stone and brick. Blanket Bay is situated just outside of Glenorchy, a small town at the northern head of Lake Wakatipu. Bordered on two sides by National Parks, the tiny village sits against a backdrop of rugged high country, beautiful mountains, glacier fed rivers and ancient beech forests. It is here that Peter Jackson chose to film the epic movie trilogy, Lord of the Rings. Glenorchy is the jumping off point for three of the most famous walking tracks in New Zealand, (the Routeburn, the Greenstone/Caples, and the Rees/Dart). The Dart River is famous for its jet boat trips into the Mount Aspiring National Park. Cape Kidnappers is situated in one of New Zealand's most important wine districts, Hawke's Bay. The area has a rich history beginning with its discovery by Captain James Cook in 1769. Set atop 6,000 rolling acres of pasture land, The Farm encompasses terrain which is reminiscent of Montana but plunges 800 feet into the sea. The cluster of lodge buildings are suggestive of a working farm. A combination of stone and weathered wood, the buildings combine rustic materials with comfortable up-to-date furniture, creating the feeling of being in a fine and welcoming home. Dining at Kidnappers is a 5 star experience. Breakfast is served from 7:00 am to 10:30 am and features a buffet of local and importedfruits,
home-made muesli and cereals, yoghurts and freshly baked pastries. In addition, a hot menu featuring eggs, pancakes, crisp bacon, ham and sausages may be ordered. Lunch is served from 12:00pm to 3:00 pm in both the Lodge and the Golf Clubhouse. The Lodge lunch menu offers a small selection of light options. The Clubhouse menu offers a more extensive range of dishes ranging from sandwiches to three course lunches. Sandwiches to eat between nines can be ordered prior to tee-off at the Clubhouse. The lodge and golf course at Kauri Cliffs is situated on the Pacific Ocean coast, a little north of the Bay of Islands. Kauri Cliffs opened in February 2001. The main building boasts a large dining room, lounge, card room and tiger room – named after the resort owner’s affectionate moniker. All rooms in the main building have open fireplaces, and elegant furnishings, featuring English, Italian and Spanish antiques. All the artwork has originated in New Zealand. Adjacent to the main building is the accommodation. Twenty-two rooms feature in eleven separate cottages looking from the edge of native New Zealand forest, across the golf course to the Pacific Ocean and coastal islands.
Each room has a private veranda, large lounge and bathroom, TV, open fireplace and full “his and hers” walk-in wardrobe. Facilities at Kauri Cliffs include golf, a spa, heated pool, hunting, kayaking, a gymnasium, business center, two tennis courts, various nature trails and three easily accessible private beaches. Dining at Kauri Cliffs is a la carte and there are several dining areas away from the main dining room.
